Dignity Health East Valley, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Chandler Regional Medical Center and Arizona General Hospital – Mesa Announces Opportunity for Non-Profit Organizations to Apply for Grants Improving Community Health

Dignity Health East Valley is inviting local non-profit organizations to consider applying for grants that support the delivery of services vital to improving health and well-being, and improving health equity.  The application period opens June 17 and runs through August 16, 2024.  Successful applicants will be announced in December for projects conducted between March 2025 through February 2026.

This opportunity is part of the CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement Grants program.  Dignity Health is part of CommonSpirit Health, which was created in 2019 when Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health came together to create a national health system.  

The grant program is focused specifically on significant needs identified in Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Chandler Regional Medical Center and Arizona General Hospital – Mesa most recent community health needs assessment (CHNA).  The hospital conducts a need assessment every three years to help it and community partners identify and address priority health and social needs faced by residents and the region.  Dignity Health East Valley is accepting proposals that address:

Behavioral & Mental Health / Suicide Substance Abuse Cancer Chronic Disease/ Diabetes / Cardiovascular Disease / Obesity/ Oral Health Injury PreventionAccess to Care/ ImmunizationHousing/ Homelessness Violence Prevention/ Human Trafficking Equity:Racial/Health/Social Nutrition/ Food Access/ Exercise 

Michael Bilton, System Senior Director for Community Health and Community Benefit at CommonSpirit, says “we strive to be intentional and strategic in our community outreach, partnerships and philanthropic giving.  It is important for our hospitals to use their resources in ways that help improve high priority, locally-relevant health issues. These grants are one example of that.” Bilton also commented on the value of working with community organizations, stating “the grant program reflects a commitment to partnering with the communities we serve, and to stimulating collaboration among others.  Grant applications must include collaborating partner organizations helping to deliver services, and not be solely about one agency’s work.”
