VETERAN NATIONAL NEWS REPORTER ROBERT COSTA TO HEADLINE

PHX EAST VALLEY PARTNERSHIP’S SEPT. 16 STATESPERSONS’ EVENT

Costa to share insights on covering politics in a 24/7 news cycle

Mesa, Ariz. – With a front-row seat to Washington politics, veteran national reporter Robert Costa will share how he covers political news of the day at the PHX East Valley Partnership’s Statespersons’ Event, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Mesa Convention Center, 263 N. Center St. in Mesa.

The annual event will be hosted in partnership with APS and the East Valley Chambers of Commerce Alliance.

Costa is a national correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning, where he covers national politics, conducts in-depth interviews with newsmakers and reports on culture, literature and the arts. As

chief Washington analyst for CBS News, he offers reporting and analysis to the CBS Evening News and other CBS News programs.

Before joining CBS News, Costa was a longtime national political reporter at The Washington Post. During his time at the newspaper, Costa served as the moderator and managing editor of Washington Week on PBS and was a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC. In 2021, he and Bob Woodward published Peril, a No. 1 New York Times bestseller.

At the event, Costa’s keynote address will be followed by a town hall-style Q&A with guests. Maricopa County Chair Tom Galvin will also update guests on the county’s priorities, and Dr. Michael White of Valleywise and Charles Coughlin of HighGround will share the status of an upcoming Valleywise bond election measure. Proposition 409, which, if approved by Maricopa County voters on Nov. 4, would fund $898 million in capital improvements for the community safety net healthcare system whose mission is to serve the underserved.

APS is the event’s presenting sponsor, and Arizona Water Company, Banner Health, City of Mesa, First Fidelity Bank and Sunbelt Holdings are supporting sponsors.
